My Power Morning Routine
As a full-time mamma and full-time business owner I have come to terms that there will never be a perfect balance and my time is limited as it is precious. I am lucky to have three little ones who wake up after 7:00am. My natural urge is to skip the alarm, wake-up at 7:00am and start the day cleaning bedrooms, getting the kids ready and cook breakfast. I quickly realized after the birth of my third baby in November that time is flying by as if it was on steroids.
I spent hours (during bottle feedings) researching time blocking techniques, schedulers and planners for months. I have tried it all and still tend to fall behind. Then one day, I came across an Instagram post about early risers whom wake up at or before 5:00am. I started to do some research on other people’s morning routines and did brainstorming of my own to create my routine.
I set my alarm clock on my phone to ring at 5:00am everyday…including weekends. I skip the snooze, tap dismiss, and jump right up to slip on my workout clothes and hit my home gym. This is what a typical morning looks like….
5:15am - 6:00am Workout
6:00am - 6:15am Take vitamins and eat breakfast while writing out my gratitudes and affirmations
6:15am - 6:30am Check messages
6:30am - 6:45am Touch base on Facebook groups I belong to
6:45am - 7:00am Read a blog post, watch a YouTube episode of an educational topic
I created a one page power morning worksheet that I use daily. I print out seven copies at a time (one per day of the week) and clip to a dollar store clipboard. I keep the clipboard on my desk with a pen to keep myself accountable for my morning and the day ahead.
This worksheet includes both personal and business goals that I fill in. From experience, I can get too caught up in goals. If I am not careful I can end up writing 15 goals for a single day. While that might seem impressive, it is completely impractical and I am ultimately setting myself up to fail for the day. So I prefer to stick to three goals for both personal and business.
The following section is a morning kick-off that includes four areas to focus on. My areas of focus are #1 Breakfast, #2 Workout, #3 Facebook Groups, and #4 Online Learning. This is the perfect combination to fuel myself up psychically and mentally to take on the day. I thought I would absolutely hate waking up at 5:00am, but I honestly love it. This is a two hour period of my morning I can focus on only myself and get my mind in the right place for my health and business.
